Vapeboss – A motorcyclist claimed to be a police officer when he was reprimanded for smoking while riding in the Jagakarsa area, South Jakarta. Currently, the man identified as Dedi has been arrested.

"He has been secured, he has apologized. He is being processed, already ticketed. Secured this morning at 8 am," said Jagakarsa Police Chief Commissioner Multazam Lisendra when contacted on Tuesday (27/6/2023).

Multazam confirmed that the man was not a member of his force. He also ensured that the membership card (KTA) shown by the man was not a police KTA.

"He is not a member of the precinct. From the video, that is not a KTA membership card," he added.

Multazam said that Dedi was also ticketed for his act of smoking while riding. "The violation is regulated in Traffic Article 283 Juncto 106 Paragraph 1, disturbing concentration while driving," he said.

In addition, Dedi was also ticketed for not wearing a helmet and not using a license plate while riding.

"Not using a license plate. 280 Juncto 68 Paragraph 1. Also, not wearing a helmet while riding 291 Paragraph 1 Juncto 106 Paragraph 8," he explained.

Multazam invited the public to obey traffic laws. This is important to ensure the safety of riders.

From the video received by detikcom, Dedi is seen wearing a long-sleeved blue shirt. Dedi stated that he is not a police officer but an ordinary citizen.

"I, Dedi, am an ordinary citizen. In connection with the viral news yesterday on social media," Dedi said.

Dedi also apologized to the National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo for claiming to be a police officer. He also apologized to the man he had argued with and who had reprimanded him.

"Regarding claiming to be a police officer, I apologize to the National Police Chief and his ranks. To the general public, and specifically personally to Uca, I apologize for my mistake at that time," he said.

Dedi admitted that he was momentarily reckless for his actions. He stated that he is ready to take responsibility for his actions.

"I was reckless, it was all out of my control. I serve as an example of someone who drove without a helmet, smoked, and didn't use a license plate. I was reckless in all of it, and I can account for it in other ways. Be yourself, don't claim to be a member, whether of the TNI or Polri, thank you," he explained.
