Vapeboss – The discussion regarding the draft regional regulation (raperda) on smoke-free zones (KTR) should be more careful and detailed. Nowadays, various tobacco products are not limited to conventional cigarettes, but also include electronic cigarettes or what is better known as vape.
Deputy Chairman of DPRD Special Committee 2, Donny Bayu Setiawan, stated that so far, products like vapes or electronic cigarettes have not yet been included in the draft regulation. This means there is still an opportunity to improve the draft regulation for KTR.
"Previously, during the FGD (focus group discussion), we touched on the use of vapes. But we still need to discuss it together with relevant parties," he said after Special Committee 2 met with the executive on Thursday (25/5/2023).
However, the discussion yesterday tended to be normative, with the executive merely providing input such as improvements to the wording of several articles. The special committee plans to hold a public hearing early next month.
"We plan to invite tobacco business owners, tobacco farmers, cafe/restaurant owners, and if necessary, vape store owners," he said.
In principle, the KTR draft regulation aims to regulate which places are designated as KTR zones, not to prohibit people from smoking.
"Because the KTR draft regulation also follows up on the Health Law. This regulation is made so that people respect each other. People have the right to smoke, but others also have the right to breathe smoke-free air," said the member of Commission B.
Head of the Health Office Ani Pujiningrum said that the rules regarding vape use would be discussed further during the public hearing. "It will be discussed during the public hearing," she said.
