From the survey conducted by IEVA, they found that 81% of smokers who switched to vaping successfully quit smoking completely, and 65% of vapers in Europe use fruit or candy-flavored liquids.

In Europe, IEVA aims to unite "national associations, companies, manufacturers, and wholesalers in the vaping industry and provide them with responsible representation at the European level" (in Indonesia, we know it as APVI). Over 3,300 European vapers participated in this study and, with full certainty, the results showed that e-cigarettes are widely used as a smoking cessation tool across Europe. In fact, a total of 81% of vapers reported having quit completely thanks to the device, while 12% only managed to reduce their smoking activity.

Furthermore, 86% of participants correctly assumed that e-cigarettes or vapes are safer than conventional cigarettes (cigarettes with burned tobacco), with only 2% inaccurately thinking that e-cigarettes are equally harmful, or more harmful than regular cigarettes.

Regarding the flavor of the liquid used, a total of 40% of respondents reported using fruit or fruity flavors, and 25% candy flavors. Then, 35% said they use tobacco-flavored liquid, and when asked how they would react if all flavors except tobacco were banned, only 20% said they would switch to tobacco flavor.

Banning Flavors Will Feed the Vape Black Market.

Following up on the previous question, 31% said they would buy their preferred flavored liquid on the black market, while 9% said they would start smoking again. Regarding risk perception, 86% of participants said they believed e-cigarettes were less harmful to them than regular cigarettes.

“Our survey confirms previous research that e-cigarette flavors are essential for adult smokers. Flavor bans must be avoided at all costs, as they would lead many vapers to buy unregulated products on the black market or start smoking again. And this would jeopardize the great opportunity for more smokers to quit.”
