Hello Bigboss!! How are you today? I hope you're always healthy, your sustenance is abundant, and all your activities are made easy!!

On this occasion, we will briefly discuss a study conducted by USC (University of Southern California) about the use of MV (Music Video) or music videos as a means of promoting vapes to teenagers. Two new studies conducted by public health researchers at USC claim that music videos depicting vaping and e-cigarette use can indirectly promote adolescent vaping nationwide.

According to two new studies published by the University of Southern California, public health experts are getting billions of eyeballs on their products and "potentially" influencing young people with what they claim is unlimited advertising in music videos.

A pair of studies argues that these music videos leave an unregulated and relatively inexpensive promotional platform. Both studies were published in the December 2020 issues of the journals Health Education & Behavior and Nicotine & Tobacco Research. The findings from both studies are concerning, according to public health experts, because vaping is linked to progressing to combustible cigarettes and other acute lung injuries.

This product visualization, the study states, also hypothesizes that underage vaping could serve as a gateway to future smoking, and potentially lead to other harmful behaviors. While the gateway effect remains a debated theory, the research concludes that advertising regulations for deemed tobacco products should apply to media and genres that include music videos available on the internet and TV.

"We know that behavior is learned and reinforced through observing the behavior of others, which makes this music video product placement problematic," said Jon-Patrick Allem, a research assistant professor at the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California. Keck is also the principal investigator for one of the studies. "For example, the music video for 'I'm the One' by DJ Khaled featuring Justin Bieber contains 8.5 seconds of specific product placement and a scene of a model using a vaping pen. This video alone has been watched over 1.3 billion times on YouTube, providing billions of impressions of vape pen product placement and use."

Patricia Escobedo, a doctoral student and lead author of one of the other papers, noted that music videos viewed billions of times are "a socializing force for young adults, shaping views of what is normative, attractive, and rewarding." To conclude what these experts are arguing, vaping in popular music videos appears to be a public health crisis.
