On January 1, 2024, the Government of the Republic of Indonesia officially implemented a 10% tax on e-cigarettes. Luky Alfirman, Director General of Fiscal Balance at the Ministry of Finance, explained that the implementation of this tax aims to maintain fairness, given that conventional cigarettes have been taxed since 2014.

Furthermore, the World Health Organization (WHO) also urged countries that allow the sale of vapes to ban the sale of flavored vapes, reduce nicotine content, and impose taxes on vape sales.

"Children are recruited and trapped at a young age to use e-cigarettes and may become dependent on nicotine," said WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus in a press release on December 14, 2023.
