Vapeboss – A new study published in JAMA Network Open, titled "Association of e-Cigarette Use With Discontinuation of Cigarette Smoking Among Adult Smokers Who Were Initially Never Planning to Quit", found that vaping can help smokers quit even if they had no intention of doing so.
To analyze the association between vaping and smoking cessation among smokers who did not intend to quit, the research team extracted data from the Population Assessment of Tobacco and Health (PATH) Longitudinal Study, where participants were evaluated in 3 interviews between 2014 and 2019.
The researchers collected 2489 observations from 1600 smokers who had no plans to quit. The research team then compared cessation rates between those who used vapes and those who did not. The results showed that 6% of participants quit during the study, while another 4.5% reduced their smoking to less than 1 cigarette per day.
The study highlighted that regular vape users were 8 times more likely to quit smoking completely and almost 10 times more likely to quit daily smoking. On the other hand, the researchers found no association between quitting smoking and infrequent vaping. According to the researchers, the conclusion is that vape products will encourage smokers to quit when used regularly.
