The prestigious football event, the 2022 World Cup, will be held in Qatar. As the host country, Qatar is implementing strict rules during the tournament. In addition to alcohol and free sex, now spectators are also not allowed to bring vapes.
According to Qatari law, the penalty for vaping violations can be a fine of up to 10,000 riyals (equivalent to 2,200 pounds or approximately 39 million rupiah) and even a 3-month prison sentence. These rules have been in effect since 2014.
"Electronic cigarettes are prohibited in Qatar in accordance with a ministerial order in 2014. Anyone who possesses an electronic cigarette may be subject to appropriate action,"
"We have instructed all supermarkets, pharmacies, and other outlets not to sell them. We have also communicated with customs departments at airports, ports, and land borders to not allow electronic cigarettes into Qatar," said Dr. Kholood al-Mutawa, Head of the Non-Communicable Diseases Department at the Ministry of Public Health of Qatar.
Meanwhile, conventional cigarettes are still legal in Qatar. According to WHO data, 12% of adults in the Muslim-majority Middle Eastern country smoke tobacco.
During the 2022 World Cup, Qatar imposes sanctions in the form of up to 7 years in prison for those involved in free sex. Not only that, Qatar also restricts alcohol in public spaces. Visitors and fans are prohibited from consuming alcohol while watching matches. In fact, stadium bars will be closed until the match ends.
Considering that the majority of Qatar's population is Muslim, alcohol or alcoholic beverages remain legal but are only sold in licensed bars and hotels.
