Vapeboss – The majority of excise tax revenue in DKI Jakarta is contributed by vapers, or users of vapes or e-cigarettes. This was stated by the Head of the Regional Office of the Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DJBC) DKI Jakarta, Rusman Hadi.
Observing the current phenomenon, Rusman stated that many young people, especially women, now carry or pocket e-cigarettes, even though they were never seen smoking before. Rusman also believes that Indonesian society has a characteristic of being more challenged the more something is forbidden.
As a result of this phenomenon, DKI Jakarta's excise revenue, as of March 2023, is dominated by young smokers who have switched to HPTL tobacco products.
"Excise revenue in DKI is contributed by e-cigarette smokers, not cigarette smokers. So I'm not promoting e-cigarettes, no. But I'm just explaining and emphasizing that the contribution of fellow e-cigarette smokers is very beneficial for DKI customs and excise," he said at a press conference in the Hall of the Regional Office of the Directorate General of Treasury, Jakarta, Tuesday (18/4/2023).
On the other hand, ordinary tobacco products subject to excise tax enter factories located outside Jakarta, such as in East Java, Central Java, and West Java. However, the smokers in Jakarta are the ones paying the excise tax.
"Payments are made in DKI, but purchases made in DKI are not gained in DKI, and for (excise revenue) DKI is dominated by HTPL, which is e-cigarettes, both imported and domestic," he explained.
