Prof. Riccardo Polosa: No lung damage after long-term daily vaping

Hello Bigboss! How are you doing? I hope you are always healthy and that all your activities go smoothly!

So, on this occasion, we will share information related to your health while you are vaping. There are certainly many studies out there that are still uncovering the condition of lung health in active vapers. However, among these studies, none have yet been able to ascertain the true impact after vaping.

FYI, there is one study that successfully proved that long-term vaping does not affect lung condition, and even does not damage the lungs, even if we vape frequently every day for a very long time.

This research was conducted by the renowned Professor Polosa. Professor Polosa is known as the Director of the Institute of Internal Medicine and the Anti-Smoking Center at the University of Catania, and last June received the INNCO Global Award.

Early evidence that long-term vaping is unlikely to pose significant health risks.

Prof. Riccardo Polosa and his team followed a small sample of young adults who had never smoked but used e-cigarettes regularly. The participants were followed and monitored for approximately 3½ years, and the results were compared to a control group of non-smokers who had never used e-cigarettes.

"We found no reduction in spirometric indices, development of respiratory symptoms, changes in markers of lung inflammation in exhaled air, or findings of early lung damage on HRCT, when compared to the group of non-EC (Electric Cigarettes or Vape) users who had never smoked," reported the study authors. The researchers added that even the heaviest users showed no signs of lung damage or inflammation, and no changes in blood pressure or heart rate were observed.

Despite the small sample size, "the results of this study may provide some early evidence that long-term EC use is unlikely to raise significant health concerns in relatively young users."

Polosa's study addresses concerns about arterial stiffness.

These findings address concerns raised by a number of medical professionals who linked arterial hardening with vaping. In fact, a study presented at the European Respiratory Society (ERS) International Congress, held in September 2017 in Milan, Italy, showed that vaping temporarily increases a person's vital signs and arterial hardening.

In response to the above, Prof. Peter Hajek, director of the Tobacco Dependence Research Unit, Queen Mary University of London (QMUL), has argued that other things have similar effects on the body and are considered irrelevant in terms of health risks. “This is a well-known stimulant effect of nicotine which has little relevance to health. Drinking coffee has a similar effect, only larger and longer-lasting (as does watching a dramatic football match).”

Further research with a larger sample is needed.

Polosa's study, published in Scientific Reports, concluded that despite the small sample size, "the results of this study may provide some early evidence that long-term EC use is unlikely to raise significant health concerns in relatively young users." However, the researchers concluded, further studies with a larger sample need to be conducted.
