Currently, regulations for alternative tobacco are limited to the Minister of Finance Regulation (PMK) related to excise rates which are issued annually. Thus, comprehensive regulations governing product information, marketing and supervision procedures, accurate and risk-appropriate health warnings, and prohibition of product use by minors are still needed.

"This rule plays a very important role, especially regarding the restriction of use by children. The government needs to start serious discussions about regulating alternative tobacco products. We must not let these products develop rapidly in society, but the regulations are still inadequate," said Satria.

Often, alternative tobacco products such as e-cigarettes or heated tobacco (not burned) face challenges in their acceptance among the public. In fact, products like e-cigarettes are the result of scientific research and technological development and can be claimed to be alternative products that have a lower risk and are much safer than regular cigarettes.

Therefore, Satria hopes for government support in the form of regulations that emphasize that alternative tobacco products can be a breakthrough in new policies.

Thus, innovative regulations demonstrate the government's seriousness in technological development and providing better health impacts for all stakeholders," said Satria.
