Vapeboss – Electronic cigarettes are believed to be an alternative to switching from conventional cigarettes. This is because the devices are claimed to be much healthier and lower risk than tobacco cigarettes. In terms of vapor, vapes are also believed to be less harmful than the smoke produced by tobacco cigarettes.
However, currently, despite such claims, many people still do not know the reasons behind the difference between vape vapor and cigarette smoke. Therefore, we will share some information regarding the differences between the two.
If viewed from the initial process of smoke or vapor formation, there is a difference between vapes and tobacco cigarettes. Cigarette smoke appears as a result of the combustion of tobacco at a temperature of around 600 degrees Celsius, while vape vapor arises due to a system of heating liquid at a controlled temperature.
Quoted from AntaraNews, because cigarette smoke is produced from a combustion process, the impact and health risks to the body are much greater. In addition, tobacco cigarettes contain TAR, one of the dangerous substances that can trigger cancer.
In a systematic literature review conducted by Airlangga University (UNAIR), researchers found that vape vapor is much safer than tobacco cigarette smoke. The vapor from these alternative tobacco products can reduce the health risks that have been present in tobacco cigarette smoke.
These risks can be reduced because the two products have different harmful chemical compounds, potential hazards, and usage methods.
The application of a heating system in vapes involving liquid tobacco (e-liquid) produces vapor or aerosol. This vapor does not contain solid particles as an effect of heating. In addition, vapes do not produce ash like in the combustion of tobacco cigarettes, so the vapor is cleaner.
The heating system in vapes can also reduce the risk of smoking tobacco by 95 percent. So for smokers who want to quit tobacco smoking, using vapes can be an alternative for them to gradually reduce and stop smoking.
On the other hand, smoke from burning tobacco cigarettes consists of 31 percent water and the rest is glycerol, nicotine, propylene glycol, and TAR, which contains many dangerous compounds.
The National Cancer Institute, United States, states that TAR is a carcinogenic product of cigarette combustion. When it enters the body, it can trigger cancer. TAR accounts for 2,000 of the 7,000 harmful chemicals present in tobacco cigarette smoke.
Comparing vapes with tobacco cigarettes, both have striking differences in health risks. Vape vapor from heated liquid tobacco has much lower HPHC compounds than cigarette smoke.
