Vapeboss - A comprehensive literature review looked at peer-reviewed studies published in English between 2007 and August 2020, concluding that higher nicotine concentrations and varied flavors in vapes can help individuals switch from smoking to vaping.

The study, titled "The role of nicotine and flavor in the abuse potential and appeal of electronic cigarettes for adult current and former cigarette and electronic cigarette users: A systematic review", screened 1624 similar previous studies.

The research team concluded that high nicotine levels and flavors in vapes are more effective in attracting adult smokers to quit cigarettes and switch to safer nicotine alternatives. However, this also has the potential for misuse.

Meanwhile, previous research aimed to examine the relative impact of several product characteristics to test differences in smoking status and primary use of flavored e-cigarettes.

Study participants preferred non-tobacco flavors and open-system vape devices

The study, titled "Impact of flavours, device, nicotine levels and price on adult e-cigarette users’ tobacco and nicotine product choices" found that, on average, participants preferred vapes with non-tobacco and non-menthol flavors, they also preferred open-system vape devices over closed-system devices and chose standard nicotine levels over lower nicotine levels.

The researchers added that these preferences would vary based on smoking status, demographics, and especially what type of flavored vape was used. The researchers also reported that preferences for different product characteristics were greater than the differences between flavors or nicotine levels.
