Vapeboss – Electronic cigarettes are currently gaining popularity among adult smokers as they can help them quit tobacco smoking. Many parties state that electronic cigarettes are very effective as a smoking cessation tool.

This is based on a study titled "Electronic Cigarettes for Smoking Cessation (Review)" conducted by health researcher Dr. Jamie Hartmann-Boyce. The journal was published in the Cochrane Network, a non-profit organization from the UK that focuses on health studies.

What is interesting is that electronic cigarettes or vapes have even been recognized in the UK and registered as medical products recommended by doctors to smokers who want to quit.

Quoting from ox.ac.uk, Dr. Jamie Hartmann-Boyce said that for a decade now, the presence of electronic cigarettes has caused many misconceptions that make many people unwilling to consume them.

"These misconceptions make some people reluctant to use electronic cigarettes as a smoking cessation tool," she stated.

"Fortunately, more and more evidence is emerging, providing further clarity. With support from Cancer Research UK, we search for new evidence every month as part of a living systematic review. We identify and combine the strongest evidence from the most reliable scientific studies available today," continued Dr. Jamie Hartmann-Boyce.

"For the first time, this research has provided us with very convincing evidence that electronic cigarettes are more effective in helping smokers quit than traditional nicotine replacement therapies, such as nicotine patches and gum," she added.

The study also showed no significant differences in carbon monoxide levels, heart rate, blood pressure, and oxygen levels between e-cigarette users and nicotine replacement therapy users.

On the other hand, Professor of Respiratory System Medicine at Imperial College London, Nicholas Hopkinson, also supports the use of electronic cigarettes as an alternative for smokers who want to quit their habit, because the health risks posed by cigarettes are different from electronic cigarettes.

"There are still more than 6 million people smoking in the UK, and these findings strongly encourage that electronic cigarettes can be one option to help them quit," said Nicholas.
