Vapeboss – Malaysia has postponed new regulations prohibiting the use of conventional and electronic cigarettes (vapes) for certain groups. The government has submitted the bill to parliament for the second time.

Malaysian Health Minister Zaliha Mustafa said that the bill, which prohibits the use, purchase, and sale of cigarettes and vape products for those born after 2007, has been submitted to a parliamentary committee for further discussion.

The Tobacco Products Control for Public Health Bill 2023 was first submitted to a parliamentary committee last year. However, the government resubmitted it on Monday (12/6/2023).

Quoting Malaysia Today, according to Mustafa, the bill needs further review.

Some circles expressed disappointment regarding the delay in passing the bill. Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) Secretary-General R Arasu said it was important to protect the younger generation from the dangers of smoking.

"It is crucial to protect our future generations. Stop playing politics and prioritize public health," he said in a tweet.

He invited all parties to urge for the immediate passage of the bill until it is enacted.

"Protect our young generation, prioritize health," he said.
