Vapeboss – The Ministry of Finance has decided to increase the excise duty on tobacco products (CHT), or cigarette excise, starting January 1, 2023. The regulation regarding the CHT rate increase is stipulated in Ministry of Finance Regulation (PMK) Number 192/PMK.010/2022 concerning Amendments to PMK Number 193/PMK.010/2021 concerning Excise Duty Rates for Tobacco Products in the form of Electronic Cigarettes and Other Processed Tobacco Products.

Sri Mulyani stated that the policy adjustment of CHT rates had considered macroeconomic aspects, especially amidst the domestic economic situation, which continues to strengthen during the national economic recovery period. Its impact on the Indonesian economy is expected to contribute to national inflation.

"The average CHT increase of 10% is estimated to cause an inflation increase in the range of 0.1 - 0.2 percentage points, so the impact on economic growth and employment is also estimated to be relatively small," explained Sri Mulyani.
