Vapeboss – The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) has formulated standardization for electronic cigarette or vape products. This standardization aims to ensure that the products meet consumer standards and minimize health impacts.
In recent years, the use of electronic cigarettes has increased significantly. According to Kemenperin data, there are approximately 2.2 million consumers of other processed tobacco products (HPTL), including electronic cigarettes. This number increased by about 40% of the total users in 2021.
"The standard has been prepared; it just needs to be ratified by the National Standardization Agency (BSN)," said Edy Sutopo, Director of the Beverage, Tobacco Products, and Refreshments Industry at Kemenperin, on Saturday (14/1/2023).
Edy himself observes that the electronic cigarette product industry in Indonesia is developing quite rapidly. This is evident from the increasing excise contributions from electronic cigarettes year by year. In 2022, the electronic cigarette industry was targeted to contribute up to IDR 1 trillion in excise. This figure is higher compared to 2021, when the contribution was around IDR 629 billion.
However, in 2023, the government will pay more attention to health issues by raising the excise duty on electronic cigarettes by 15% annually.
"The development of the electronic cigarette industry is quite rapid, as we can see from its excise revenue. However, we still don't know what future regulations related to health will be like," Edy said.
