Vapeboss – Co-founder and CEO of RELX International, Bing Du, indicates that in countries that utilize safer nicotine delivery alternative products, smoking rates are declining.
"This correlation shows that as e-cigarette use among adult smokers increases, traditional cigarette use decreases," Du said as quoted by Khaleej Times. "When we look at countries like the UK, New Zealand, Australia, Japan, and many others, we can clearly see a pattern of increased e-cigarette adoption versus a decline in traditional cigarette use."
Bing Du highlighted that this consumption pattern aligns with RELX's goal of transitioning adult smokers from combustible tobacco (conventional cigarettes) to scientifically proven safer alternatives. "Harm reduction is a proven approach adopted in several industries long before tobacco. It's as simple as encouraging the population to abandon harmful habits for better, less harmful ones."
Principles of Tobacco Harm Reduction
"Harm reduction, as a principle, depends on two factors that must coexist: products with a lower risk profile, and adult smokers adopting them en masse," he explained. "Only then can we fulfill the potential e-cigarettes have in complementing public health policies by supporting adult smokers' transition to better alternatives."
RELX, one of the largest manufacturers, distributors, and sellers of vaping products in China, was present as local concerns about youth vaping began to rise. In September 2021, the brand officially launched in Saudi Arabia.
Responding to RELX's launch in Saudi Arabia, local general manager at RELX International, Fouad Barakat, explained the financial logic behind the move. "The MENA region is one of the fastest-growing markets in our category, growing at a rate of just under 10 percent until 2024. Saudi Arabia is one of the largest and most prosperous markets in the region, so it is necessary for any brand to launch there if it wants to expand and grow larger."
