Kanthal
Kanthal wire is becoming more commonly used in Vaping Coils for both beginners and professional vapers.
Kanthal has several grades, including Kanthal A1 and Kanthal D. The difference in these grades lies only in the composition of Al (Aluminum) and its maximum operating temperature. The main basic material for Kanthal is iron-chromium-aluminum alloy (FeCrAl alloy).
The advantage of Kanthal A1 is that it can be used at temperatures up to 1400°C (2550°F). This alloy is characterized by high resistivity and excellent oxidation resistance.
The disadvantage of Kanthal A1 is that it takes a long time to heat up. Compared to Nichrome or Stainless Steel, Kanthal A1 heats up the slowest. Kanthal A1 is also somewhat hard and not very flexible.
Kanthal A1 is a suitable wire for beginners.

Titanium
Titanium wire is actually similar to Nickel; when heated to a certain temperature, Titanium will release a substance called Titanium Dioxide or Titania (TiO2).
The risk is: Titanium dioxide dust, when inhaled, has been classified by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) as an IARC Group 2B carcinogen, meaning it is possibly carcinogenic to humans. Carcinogens are substances that cause cancer.
Carcinogens cause cancer by altering deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) in body cells, and this interferes with biological processes in humans.
The advantage of Titanium compared to Nickel is that TiO2 only begins to appear when Titanium is heated to 600°C or 1112°F. However, vapers generally only use 200°C or 450°F in their TC (Temperature Control) Mods, so it is still within a safe range.
If white powder is found on the coil, it is better to discard the coil and wrap a new one. If there is any doubt about a titanium coil, it is better to wrap a new coil.
Nichrome / NI80
Ni80 is a mixture of 80% nickel and 20% chromium. Ni200, on the other hand, is pure Nickel. The advantage of nichrome compared to kanthal is that it has more consistent heat, contains no iron, and does not stick to magnets, thus reducing the possibility of dry hits or burning.
Nichrome is made of a nickel-chromium alloy generally only used at temperatures below 1250°C. Nichrome has a slightly lower maximum operating temperature than Kanthal. At temperatures of 700°F and above, Ni80 may release NiO.
Ni 200 / Pure Nickel
Ni200 is made of pure nickel and has a very high temperature coefficient. This is why the people at Evolv (famous for their DNA mod chips) decided to use Ni200 wire for the first Temperature Control mod.
Nickel wire is very pliable, making it harder to wrap compared to Kanthal or Titanium. If a wrapped coil touches itself, there is a potential hotspot that can cause the coil to short circuit.
Therefore, Ni200 is good for coils with space between wraps. Ni200 is the best metal for Temperature Control devices.
Stainless Steel (SS)
Stainless Steel (SS) consists of Chromium, Nickel, Carbon, and Iron. There are two types of Stainless Steel (SS) wire commonly used in vaping: SS 304 and SS 316.
Stainless Steel (SS) has good heat resistance, with corrosion resistance ranging from 426 °C – 898 °C. Some mods offer a custom TCR mode, in which case we can use Stainless Steel (SS) coils in temperature control mode.
This will yield maximum results as long as we set the temperature coefficient correctly.
Note: Ni200, Titanium are low resistance wires and are not recommended for mechanical mods.

Kanthal is a patented brand, and anyone who makes Kanthal must pay a license fee. The brand owner is Sandvik.
