Vapeboss – The Attorney General's Office has named and immediately detained Minister of Communication and Information Johnny G. Plate in connection with alleged corruption in the Bakti Kominfo Base Transceiver Station (BTS) infrastructure provision project.

Johnny was named a suspect in the alleged corruption case involving the provision of 4G base transceiver station (BTS) towers and supporting infrastructure packages 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 of the Telecommunication and Information Accessibility Agency (Bakti) of the Ministry of Communication and Information (Kominfo) in 2020-2022.

Plate's designation as a suspect was issued on Wednesday (17/5/2023).

"We concluded that there is sufficient evidence that the individual concerned was involved in the criminal act of corruption in BTS infrastructure. As the budget user and as minister. The investigative team elevated the status of the individual concerned from witness to suspect. And will detain him for the next 20 days at the Salemba detention center of the Attorney General's Office," said the spokesperson for the Attorney General's Office.

In response, the NasDem Central Executive Board held an emergency meeting with NasDem Chairman, Surya Paloh.

"Just received a call from Mr. Surya," said NasDem Central Executive Board Chairman, Willy Aditya, when met after attending a discussion at UMJ, South Tangerang, on Wednesday (17/5).

Willy rushed away from the discussion about the election, which was also attended by PDIP and PKS politicians, as well as political observer Siti Zuhro.

"I have to go to the Central Executive Board first. Well, since I'm here, of course, I have to coordinate with Mr. Surya and the Central Executive Board about what our stance will be," he said.

Willy was reluctant to speculate further about the detention of the NasDem Secretary-General, including linking this case to the 2024 elections.

"Well, we'll see later, we can't prejudge. We'll see, what is the legal domain, what is the political domain," said Willy.
