The Vape industry in Bandung, West Java, contributed 90.7 billion rupiah in excise revenue in the last year. This is because there are currently 38 e-cigarette producers in the city.
Dwiyono Widodo, Head of the Bandung Customs and Excise Office, explained that this condition is a contribution made by producers to the state.
“As of July 31, 2022, excise duty from e-cigarettes was Rp90.7 billion,” said Widodo during a press tour by the Directorate General of Customs and Excise of the Ministry of Finance regarding customs and excise utilization.
He explained that these producers are classified as Home Industry, as one person can produce their own liquid. Therefore, the excise revenue from the vape industry in Bandung reflects the movement of small and medium industries in the city.
"Why are there so many vape producers here? Because the people of Bandung are creative, and this (vape industry) is largely filled by young people," he said.
However, Widodo mentioned that there is a risk of threats if vape products are produced without excise stamps. Therefore, the Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DJBC) is needed to encourage and ensure that producers can continue to produce their products.
“If there are illegal ones, they will face two entities: their fellow legal vape producers, and of course us, Customs and Excise,” he concluded.
