Vapeboss – Besides their accessibility to teenagers, the main problem posed by disposable vape products is the fact that they contribute to a massive waste problem. The hazardous waste from lithium batteries and heavy metals from their circuit systems, and the fact that they are disposable, make them a major source of environmental pollution.
These devices often contain scarce and expensive resources, such as precious metals, which could be reclaimed if properly handled. On the other hand, mishandling materials like lead, mercury, and cadmium can have detrimental effects on the environment. Unfortunately, most of these devices have batteries sealed inside the unit, making them difficult to separate.
US vape manufacturer Pure Labs recently urged authorities to address the unsustainability of disposable vapes and take appropriate action. "Not only are disposable vaping devices fueling the ongoing youth vaping epidemic in the world, these disposable plastic e-cigarettes are responsible for a growing amount of toxic waste that is plaguing our planet," the manufacturer stated.
Additionally, the FDA today announced it has issued warning letters to 170 stores and 19 online retailers for selling illegal Elf Bar and Esco Bar products. Most of the stores receiving warnings were convenience stores, gas stations, and vape shops. Many stores are collaborating or affiliated with large retail companies and gas stations. At least two major online vape retailers include Directvapor and MyVaporStore.
The stores were not warned for selling to underage customers, but only for selling products to adults via the premarket tobacco application (PMTA) pathway. Stores that received the warning letter have 15 working days to dispute the allegations in the letter or explain how they will correct the violations.
Ironically, millions of vaping products are already being massively sold in the United States, and most of them are disposable vapes and packaged e-liquids in flavors other than tobacco and menthol. Even if the FDA succeeds in eliminating the import and sale of Elf Bar and Esco Bar products, other disposable vape brands will continue to emerge.
