Disposable Pod Dropped in Water? Do This

Shopify API - 28 December 2023

If your disposable pod falls into water, it's most likely time to dispose of it. Fortunately, it was intentionally made to be disposable.

However, sometimes your disposable pod can still work if it only gets wet or briefly falls into the water. Let's look at what happens when your disposable falls into water, what you can do to fix it, and when it's the right time to do so.

What happens if your disposable pod falls into water?

Although the inside of a disposable pod is not visible because it is sealed, there are several parts inside the device that are not compatible with water, such as:

  • Wet battery
  • Wet chipset
  • Water mixed in the liquid

Disposable pod fell into water and still works?

As mentioned, the chipset and battery can still function if they get wet, so it's possible your disposable pod could still work if it only briefly falls into water. There aren't many ways for water to quickly penetrate the device.

So it makes sense that the best thing you can do if your disposable falls into water is to remove it from the water as soon as possible. Of course, this assumes you dropped it in shallow, clean water.

Here are some steps you can take to save it.

  1. Immediately dry the device thoroughly. For small openings like airflow and USB ports, use something small, like a piece of tissue rolled to a point.
  2. DO NOT charge or vape the disposable until it is completely dry and you have gone through these steps. Activating electronics while wet can end any chance of saving it. If you have a rechargeable disposable, make sure not to connect it to the charger and other electronics until you have given it enough time to dry. Make sure it's dry before you try.
  3. Wrap your disposable pod with a small tissue and place it in a bowl of rice. Rice is hygroscopic, meaning it can absorb moisture. You don't want to apply heat to a wet disposable, so passively removing moisture is best. The tissue wrapped around your disposable is only there to protect against any dust that might be in the rice.

As mentioned, the above steps apply to falling into CLEAN water that does not completely submerge the device; if fully submerged, a short circuit is very likely. Also, if it falls into seawater, puddles, or other water sources, it's best to just dispose of it.

Conclusion

If you have followed the steps above and successfully avoided trying to vape or charge the disposable while it was still wet, there's a good chance it can still function.
