How to Clean an RTA: Reasons and Materials Needed

Shopify API - 20 September 2023

On this occasion, we will give you something very, very important! Yes, what we mean is how to properly clean an RTA.

You must already know that the cleanliness of your vape device is important, right? So, before we get into the RTA cleaning process, we'll give you a few reasons why you should clean your RTA, let's check it out!

Reasons Why You Must Clean Your RTA

Here are some reasons why you should clean your RTA:

For Better Flavor

Have you ever heard the term flavor-ghosting? Flavor-ghosting is a change in taste that occurs when you change the liquid in your RTA without cleaning the tank first.

The lingering taste of the first liquid remains even if you use a new liquid. Not only is this unpleasant, but you also experience an unpleasant taste because there is a combination of two flavor profiles that are not meant to be together.

In short, clean your tank before changing e-liquid to get the best taste.

A Vaping Experience with an RTA That Feels Like New

If you want your RTA to perform optimally, then your RTA tank must be well-maintained. Residue in the tank is an unfortunate consequence of time and your e-liquid.

Simply put: Time + E-liquid = Gunk (and it's unavoidable). VG is a core component in all e-liquids, and if left unchecked, over time, unclear VG buildup will start to impact your tank.

For example, the negative impacts are reduced flavor production, poor RTA performance, reduced airflow, and a burnt taste. So you really must continuously monitor your tank's maintenance to get peak performance from your RTA!

Avoid Foreign Objects in the RTA Tank

One of the most underestimated reasons to maintain an RTA tank is to clean off any dirt or germs that may still be clinging to the tank's surface.

In fact, our own mouths can sometimes be a dirty place, and it's not impossible to assume that many of us accidentally drip saliva into the tank while puffing.

Moreover, if you've ever thought about all the bits and pieces of equipment in your pocket, bag, etc., that could potentially stick to the driptip's surface, then get into the RTA tank and into our e-liquid.

Materials You Need to Prepare

Well, now that you know the reasons behind RTA cleanliness, it's time to move on to the next step: cleaning your RTA tank properly and ensuring you get the best vaping experience.

First, the materials you need to prepare:

  1. Your RTA
  2. New coil
  3. Empty container (bowl or similar)
  4. Warm water or alcohol (alcohol optional)
  5. Dish soap (Sunlight, Mama Lemon, etc.)
  6. Cloth or tissue
  7. Cotton buds or a soft brush (brush optional)

How to Clean an RTA

Next, once you have gathered the materials mentioned above, it's time to clean your RTA. Follow these steps:

  1. Remove all e-liquid remaining in the RTA tank.
  2. Once the tank is empty, proceed to disassemble the RTA (discard your old coil) and place each RTA part into a bowl of warm water. Depending on how long it has been since you last cleaned the RTA.
  3. You might want to add a little dish soap to the bowl of water for extra cleaning. Then, stir the separated RTA parts in the bowl and make sure the water touches every square millimeter of the RTA.
  4. Fill a second bowl or container with equal parts water/alcohol and transfer the RTA parts into the new solution (If you used soap in the previous step, make sure you rinse the soap off the RTA parts first).
  5. If you are using an alcohol-water solution, the alcohol content will help thoroughly disinfect the tank and add an extra shine to the stainless steel parts of the RTA. Let the tank soak for at least 5 minutes in the solution to fully disinfect.
  6. Then rinse the RTA one last time to clean off any remaining alcohol or water.
  7. Next, take a soft brush or cotton bud and start cleaning any areas where dirt is still clinging to the RTA parts. Simply take your soft brush or cotton bud and clean off any remaining dirt.
  8. Once the RTA parts look good and clean, take your cloth/tissue and start drying each RTA part one by one.
  9. Finally, once the RTA parts are completely dry, proceed to install a new coil, cotton, reassemble the RTA parts, and then fill it with e-liquid.

How was it? Easy to clean the RTA, right? Yes, hopefully now your RTA looks clean and produces flavor like it did when it was new! Maybe from now on.

You really should set aside one day every once in a while for RTA cleaning to ensure you get the best vaping experience with your RTA.
