Vapeboss – The Indonesian Vape Consumer Association (AKVINDO) believes that there is still a lot of misinformation circulating among the public regarding alternative tobacco products. They hope that education about these products will be increased so that the public can assess them based on facts.

AKVINDO Chairman, Paido Siahaan, stated that several studies on the implementation of harm reduction concepts for alternative tobacco products have shown their ability to reduce health risks associated with smoking. Based on this concept, the use of alternative tobacco products can be considered a healthier alternative to conventional cigarettes.

"The tobacco harm reduction concept is a strategy to reduce the adverse effects of tobacco use by mitigating the health risks associated with smoking," said Paido Siahaan.

"This way, users can gradually reduce their health risks while still using tobacco products," he continued.

Paido then cited the "Evidence Review of E-Cigarettes and Heated Tobacco Products 2018" research by Public Health England, now known as the UK Health Security Agency. Cigarette smoke and the TAR produced when cigarettes are burned can increase the risk of cancer, heart disease, and other health problems.

"Alternative tobacco products can be utilized by adult smokers who wish to quit smoking. Most of these products are designed to reduce the health risks associated with smoking," he explained.

Similar sentiments were expressed by Johan Sumantri, Chairman of the Indonesian Vapers Alliance (AVI). He hopes that misinformation regarding alternative tobacco products can be stopped with increased public education, scientific studies, and collaborative efforts between health experts and the government. They are ready to cooperate with all relevant stakeholders to provide education.

"Socialization and scientific studies on alternative tobacco products need to be more widespread. Not only from associations, but the government and related parties also need to be involved. This effort is very important for people who want to quit smoking," said Johan.
