Hello Bigboss!! How are you today? Hope you're always healthy, your sustenance is abundant, and all your activities are made easy!!
In this article, we will share information about the commitment of PAVENAS (National Vape Association Alliance) which is ready to affix health warning labels to provide accurate education to the public, as the health risks of vape products differ from conventional cigarettes.
Currently, PAVENAS consists of a number of industry and consumer associations that are official members. These include AVB (Bali Vapourizer Alliance), APVI (Indonesian Personal Vapourizer Alliance), APPNINDO (Indonesian Nicotine Delivery Entrepreneur Alliance), APEI (Indonesian E-Liquid Producers Alliance), and AVI (Indonesian Vaper Alliance).
I Gede Agus Mahartika, chairman of AVB, stated that to date the government has not yet issued specific regulations for HPTL (Other Tobacco Product Processing) products that govern the inclusion of health warning labels. However, currently, the only specific regulation in effect is limited to the determination of excise duty rates.
According to PAVENAS, the inclusion of such labels is PAVENAS's commitment to creating protection for the wider community and consumers.
"We, along with fellow associations affiliated with PAVENAS, have a strong commitment to providing protection to consumers and the wider community. One form of this is a provision for producers to affix health warning labels that are textual, different from cigarette products, and consistent with the factual risks of the product," he said.
Gede Agus added that the labels will provide information based on facts and numerous studies that have been conducted. Unlike conventional cigarettes which only include pictorial labels, HPTL product labels will be presented in textual form with scientific evidence as a basis.
"This must be well understood. HPTL products are different from cigarettes and carry a lower risk than cigarettes, as concluded in various existing scientific studies. Based on this consideration, we agree that the health warning labels should be made different from cigarettes," he explained.
Furthermore, PAVENAS continues to tirelessly urge vape industry players to only sell officially labeled health warning products and not to sell their products to individuals under 18 years of age or those who should not be consumers of vape products.
"We do not want this product to be misused, especially by children under 18, non-smokers, and pregnant women," he stated.
Finally, PAVENAS hopes that the government will immediately design and publish specific regulations for HPTL products that include labeling provisions and differ from conventional cigarettes.
"The government can follow in the footsteps of Japan, the UK, the United States, and Canada, who have already issued regulations on health warning labels. This will certainly help the government in formulating ideal regulations for HPTL products," he concluded.
