"Indeed, there are pros and cons, but as entrepreneurs and an association, we certainly have no problem with the imposition of excise duty on vape products," said Aryo.

"So, with electric cigarette products having excise duty, at least customers will no longer doubt that the goods are fit for distribution and consumption by the wider community," he asserted.

Based on data owned by APVI, some 120 vape businesses in Indonesia are now registered and have excise duty.

Since the 12 percent excise tax increase started last January, Aryo admitted that APVI was slightly affected by the policy. However, Aryo emphasized that the impact of the excise tax increase was not too significant because vapers or electric cigarette users have their own communities.

"Alhamdulillah, so far vape has its own community, so it doesn't really feel the impact of the policy," he explained.

Therefore, Aryo hopes that the government will clarify regulations for vaporizer products so that the domestic vape industry can continue to grow and contribute significantly to the country.

"We realize that the Vape industry in Indonesia has only been around for about eight years. However, its regulations have only been in effect for the past three years. And the rules are minimal. We hope that in the future, these rules can support the Vape industry in Indonesia," he concluded.
