What is a Hive coil?

Have you ever seen the shape of two wires twisted together? Or, a braided hairstyle? Well, at first glance, it looks similar, but there's something different. As shown in the cover image of this article, a Hive coil is a combination of two coils that have been twisted into a knot, then twisted again into a single coil.

Unlike Clapton coils, Hive coils use a twisted coil concept that increases the surface area. Hive coils also excel in flavor but sometimes produce spitback. Therefore, Hive coils are typically used by vapers for MTL vaping.

Advantages of Hive coils

Hive coils might sound outdated, but they are still very 'worth it' to use. Because originally, Hive coils evolved from Twisted coils. So they still have many advantages such as:

• Hive coils have low resistance, can be used for DTL, but vapers are more comfortable using them for MTL.
• They have a slightly thicker shape but are still very suitable for use in various atomizers.
• Because they are formed from four coiled wires, Hive coils have good durability.
• Hive coil ramp-up is faster than other coils (Clapton, etc.), but still slower than round wire.
• Easy to assemble yourself.

How to make a Hive coil

It might sound difficult for novices, but making your own Hive coil turns out to be relatively easy. You don't need to use a drill to assemble a Hive coil, just prepare two clamping tools like pliers, then clamp two round wire coils, twist to coil the two wires, and once you have two twisted coils, clamp those two coils again and twist/spin/crimp them into one, then cut off the flattened ends caused by the pliers, and you have a Hive coil. Easy, right? Like twisting cables or braiding hair, hehe.
