Apa Itu Atomizer Vape? Ini Jenis, Komponen, dan Perawatannya!

Vapeboss Indonesia - 12 October 2023

Ever wondered where the thick vapor clouds and delicious liquid flavor come from when you're vaping? The answer lies in one crucial component called the Atomizer.

Like a kitchen, the atomizer is where the liquid is "cooked" and turned into vapor. No matter how good your mod device is, without a capable and well-maintained atomizer, your vaping experience will never be optimal.

For those of you who want to learn more about vape, let's thoroughly explore what an atomizer is, its components, types, and how to maintain it to keep it flavorful!

What is an Atomizer in Vaping?

Simply put, an atomizer is the top part (head) of a vape device that functions to convert liquid into vapor.

Its working process is quite simple: it converts electrical energy from the mod battery and heats the wire (coil). This hot wire then vaporizes the liquid that has soaked into the cotton (wick), producing thick vapor ready for you to inhale.

Main Atomizer Components

To work properly, an atomizer is equipped with several important components:

  1. Coil (Heating Wire): This is the heart of the atomizer. It is made of resistive metal (such as Kanthal, Stainless Steel, or Ni80). When the firing button is pressed, the coil heats up and vaporizes the liquid.

  2. Wick (Absorbent Cotton): Functions as a bridge that transports liquid from the tank to the coil. Organic cotton is the most common material used due to its high absorbency and non-impairing effect on the original liquid flavor.

  3. Deck & Tank: The deck is the base where you install the coil and cotton. Meanwhile, the tank (glass tank) is where the liquid is held so you don't have to drip it continuously.

  4. Drip Tip: This is the top "mouthpiece" that directly touches your lips when inhaling vapor.

Types of Atomizers

Currently on the market, rebuildable atomizers are generally divided into three main types. Each has unique characteristics that can be adjusted to your style:

Type

Full Name

Liquid System

Key Characteristics

RDA

Rebuildable Dripping Atomizer

Manually dripped onto the cotton

Produces the thickest vapor and purest/most concentrated flavor. Suitable for cloud chasers.

RTA

Rebuildable Tank Atomizer

Stored in a glass tank

Very practical for daily use because you just fill the tank completely, no need to bother dripping.

RDTA

Rebuildable Dripping Tank Atomizer

Hybrid (Can be dripped & stored)

Combines the flavor intensity of an RDA with the convenient tank capacity of an RTA.

How to Maintain an Atomizer to Keep it Durable & Flavorful

A dirty atomizer will produce an unpleasant taste, and can even cause a dry hit (burnt taste) that makes you cough. Perform these two essential maintenance steps:

  • Regular Cleaning (Wash Atomizer): Wash all atomizer components (except the coil and cotton) using warm water at least once a week. This is important to remove residue (gunk) from combustion and prevent flavor-ghosting (lingering taste from old liquid).

  • Replace Coil and Cotton Periodically: Cotton and wire have a limited lifespan. If the vapor starts to diminish, the liquid flavor becomes bland, or a burnt smell appears, immediately discard the old cotton and coil, then rebuild with new ones.

Conclusion

The atomizer is the main key to enjoying vaping. Knowing the right type of atomizer, whether you're team RDA for flavor, or RTA for practicality, will greatly determine the quality of your daily puffs.

Don't forget to always keep it clean too!
