Hello Bigboss!! How are you today? Hope you're always healthy, your sustenance is smooth, and all your activities are made easy!!

Neily Zakiyah, as the Head of the Center of Excellence for Science and Technology in Pharmaceutical Service Innovation at Padjadjaran University, stated that alternative tobacco products (ATPs) such as vapes or e-cigarettes are tools that have the potential to reduce health risks caused by smoking and are more effective in helping adult smokers quit.

Based on the results of research that has been conducted, alternative tobacco products have a lower risk than cigarettes, but can still provide the nicotine needed without harmful substances such as TAR.

"Our latest systemic review shows that various alternative tobacco and nicotine products such as e-cigarettes, heated tobacco products, snus, and nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) in the form of patches, gums, and others have the potential to help adult active smokers in harm reduction efforts," said Neily.

She also explained that one of the benefits of using alternative tobacco products is that it can reduce withdrawal symptoms in adult smokers. These symptoms are often experienced by adult smokers when they are anxious because they are not smoking, which makes them psychologically and physically uncomfortable.

"This can increase the likelihood of that person returning to smoking or relapsing," she said.

Recently, a forum called the Global Forum on Nicotine (GFN) 2022 with the theme "Benefits of Nicotine" discussed the same thing.

Prof. Ricardo Polossa from the Founder of the Center of Excellence for the Acceleration of Harm Reduction (CoEHAR) at the University of Catania, Italy, revealed that research conducted by his team showed positive results. As many as 40 schizophrenic patients undergoing antipsychotic treatment were able to quit smoking completely after switching to alternative tobacco products.

The research results also found something interesting: the patients who participated did not experience decompensation or worsening of psychotic symptoms during the research process. At the same time, doctors were able to reduce the dosage of antipsychotic medication consumed by the patients.

"So, overall, we are improving their quality of life, reducing the dosage of antipsychotic medication," said Prof. Ricardo Polossa.

He then continued that these findings were the result of a pilot project involving a limited number of patients. Currently, his team is replicating and conducting the same study involving many respondents to find out more about the benefits of ATPs for adult smokers.
